Pursuing the Cause: The Example of Peter

In Ephesians 4:11, we find the various roles that Christ has given to His followers to equip the saints for the work of ministry. These roles include apostles, prophets, evangelists, shepherds, and teachers. Interestingly, the life and ministry of Peter, exemplify all these fivefold ministries.

Peter was an apostle (a direct disciple of Jesus) given authority to establish churches. Peter was a prophet or seer who revealed mysteries of Ananias and Saphira. God also showed him visions about Cornelius the Roman Centurion. At the festival of Pentecost, Peter spoke the good news and God converted 3,000 souls as an Evangelist. Jesus told Peter, “If you love me, feed my sheep,” making him the Shepherd, Pastor, and leader of the Apostles.

Peter also wrote letters to teach Jewish churches spread in the Roman Empire. As we reflect on Peter’s ministry, we are reminded that each of us has been called to fulfill various roles within the body of Christ. Let us press on, striving to go higher and deeper in our pursuit of Christ’s mandate to equip the church (Ephesians 4:11).

May we be inspired to save souls through evangelism, to nurture and guide one another. As we embark on this journey, let us remember that our ultimate goal is to pursue the cause of Christ, advancing His kingdom and fulfilling His great commission.

May we be empowered by the Holy Spirit to fulfill our unique roles within the body of Christ, as we strive to build up the church and bring glory to our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Integrity in the Marketplace – Joseph’s Leadership

Joseph’s remarkable rise to leadership in Egypt, as recorded in Genesis 39-41, serves as a powerful testament to the transformative power of integrity, even in the face of unimaginable adversity. Despite being betrayed by his brothers and sold into slavery, and later wrongfully imprisoned, Joseph’s character remained unshaken, his faith unwaivering. Through his diligence and exceptional work ethic, he earned the trust and admiration of everyone around him, from Potiphar to the prison guards, and ultimately, the Pharaoh.

In today’s busy world, we’re often tempted to compromise our values for short-term gains, to take shortcuts or bend the rules. But Joseph’s story teaches us that true success, lasting success, is built on an unshakeable foundation of honesty, trustworthiness, and integrity.

Integrity may not always yield immediate results or recognition, but it cultivates lasting influence, favor, and a clear conscience. As Galatians 6:9 reminds us, “And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.” Our integrity is not just about our actions, but about our motivation and the One we serve.

As followers of Christ, we’re called to imitate Joseph’s unwavering commitment to integrity. Let’s resist the temptation to cut corners or compromise our principles, remembering that the Lord sees all and rewards our faithfulness.
